Freedom at Last!
Today we had the privilege of releasing two female American Kestrels back into the wild after weeks of rehabilitation.
These sisters came to us after the tree containing their nest was cut down during nesting season. The fall had tragic consequences one sibling did not survive the impact, and another suffered injuries so severe that humane euthanasia was the kindest option.
These two survivors were fortunate. With time, care, and plenty of flight conditioning, they were able to recover and return to where they belong: soaring free.
Their story is an important reminder that spring and early summer are nesting season for many birds and other wildlife. Before trimming or removing trees, please take a moment to check for active nests. Whenever possible, wait until after nesting season to prune or remove trees. A little patience can save an entire family of birds.
We’re so grateful to everyone who supports wildlife rehabilitation and helps give animals like these kestrels a second chance.
Fly free, little ladies!
